I'm about 99% certain I can switch my dad from Windows to Linux and he wouldn't notice a goddamn difference. My mom, on the other hand, needs QuickBooks 2003 and 2012, and wine doesn't seem to like those. Trying a few more things ... if it still doesn't go, though, I'll have to either leave her on Windows or use winapps.

Manjaro or Ubuntu would be a good choice.

I am most certainly not putting my parents on a rolling release. I'm thinking Pop!_OS, mainly because I use it and know how to support it, but also because you can apply OS/app updates without authenticating. That or Linux Mint because Cinnamon, but Debian Edition because Linux Mint cuts out a lot of Ubuntu stuff anyway, so I might as well just go with the version that cuts Ubuntu out entirely.

My dad's computer is an i3-7300 and my mom's is a Ryzen 5 4500U. Both are running 16GB of RAM and 500GB SSDs. The only thing I'd need to do with my dad's PC is to replace the AIO with something else (looking at the Noctua NH-C14S with the fan mounted on the bottom), as the pump is making a bit more noise than I'd like. My mom's is one of those Minisforum things bolted to the back of her monitor, that thing makes zero noise and is stupid fast.

Just sent off my broken smartwatch, hopefully it'll get at least fixed, if not replaced outright.

QuickBooks 2003 and 2012 just won't run on Linux, unfortunately. I got 2003 running on WinApps, and it works beautifully, but 2012 is a complete shitshow. It confuses freerdp like nobody's business -- just puts a tiny segment of the title bar in the upper-left corner of the screen with zero chance of getting the whole window back. So ... unfortunately the only way to run QuickBooks 2003 or 2012 on Linux is to RDP into a Windows box, or to use the console of a Windows VM.

I still believe my dad can run Linux on his machine and not notice a difference, but he'd still need a new cooler. I also realized that he needs a new front fan for his Thermaltake Core V1, since there's currently a 120mm radiator up front rather than the 200mm fan it came with. So, he'd need to snag both of those from Noctua as well ... but then, there's also the Fractal Design Era ITX case that can accommodate a 240mm AIO, and looks super sweet compared to the Core V1.
