The all new minty fresh "What are you up to?" thread!

I want to ask my manager for a cluster of 8GB Pi 4s so I can run a Kubernetes cluster on them, don’t see it happening but I can hope. Also sent off a request for an IP SAN, switches, NICs, DACs, RAM, etc for our lab. It took my over a day to enable SSO on a lab Unity Connection system because of a slow data store, we need to resolve it ASAP….

I spun up 10 VMs (4 cores, 8GB RAM, 32GB disk) on a Hyper-V cluster to act as a k3s cluster. That was fun. At the moment, though, I'm installing Gentoo on a VM on my home machine. Currently compiling the kernel because ... well Gentoo, really.

<edit> Welp, VM didn't work. I must have fucked up a kernel option ... back to the drawing board </edit>

850W power supply is in, cables have been re-managed. I even taped the ARGB connectors together with electrical tape because they were so damn loose they'd fall out whenever I took the side panel off.

Debating cooking dinner. It'll be burgers and fries, that's what's on the schedule, but I'm not really hungry yet. Maybe by the time I'm done cooking I'll be hungry?

It is a mystery.

Sitting on the sofa waiting for the Monaco Grand Prix to start. It's been a bit chaotic, but they just had the 10 minute warning so they may actually start it now.

God this race is a clusterfuck ... every possible weird occurrence has happened. Red flagged twice, rolling start, will stop due to time limits, one entire team out due to an engine failure and a car breaking the fuck in half.

Alright, finished my most recent BL3 playthrough - TVHM with Moze. Picked up a Soulrender when I played through Guns, Love, and Tentacles, and holy crap that thing rocks. The one I got was full-auto so it spawned purple skulls all the time, and every purple skull does 20x weapon damage, so ... yeah I didn't even have to get Iron Bear out.

Thinking of starting Cyberpunk next.

Kubernetes is an absolute fucking monster. Worth learning in the end, to be sure, but a right pain in the dick. This is one of those "I know enough to be dangerous" things.

I didn't go into full-blown Kubernetes out of the gate; I started with k3s, with this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgVz4-SE...SSpJLLL90G

This video is probably the easiest "zero to k3s cluster" video to follow, and contains additional information about Rancher, which is fantastic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9fSMGkjtug

The ten VMs I built in the post I mentioned before were spread across three clustered Hyper-V boxes. One was a k3s server (the "leader" machine), and the other nine were k3s workers (the ones that run the containers). There was an eleventh machine I built a week or so after the others that ended up running Rancher. The first ten were running Debian Buster, and the eleventh was running Rocky Linux 8. The k3s server and Rancher VM were in one availability set, and the k3s workers were in three other availability sets, which ensures that each hypervisor runs three workers and that they get rebalanced automatically after a host is taken out of maintenance mode.

I ended up running Pi-Hole, squid, and nginx on there long-term, with several other experiments involved. Cluster has been torn down now, as we have full-blown k8s running on bare metal now.
