Our VPS provider saw fit to change our IPs and didn't give me near enough advance warning. Add to that our GLUE records for our nameserver addresses at NameCheap were royally screwed requiring manual correction and that's why we've been AWOL for a couple weeks.

All fixed now although propogation might take a day or so.... but it's working for me!

Trying to decide if we upgrade our Meraki MX64 to an MX100 or switch to a different brand firewall at the office.

I was curious if this was "the big one" and the site finally went down.

Glad to see it's not!

I'm okay with Cisco ASA firewalls, and Meraki MX68s seem to be okay for most of the applications I've used them for. At home I use a UniFi Dream Machine, but the Pro model seems like it'd be a better fit for a business. However, my new favorite is the Palo Alto PA-5200 series ... those things are monsters

As for what I'm up to, Adam finally moved his bed out, so I'm rapidly claiming his former bedroom as an office for Julie and me. I slapped the first coat of fresh paint on the ceiling and am waiting it to dry so I can put the second up.

Finished off my most recent BL3 playthrough and Doom Eternal, and dove into Mass Effect: Legendary Edition last night. Textures look so much better and it doesn't feel nearly as janky as the original.

In other news, the double-sided tape kind of sucks. The acoustic tiles keep falling off the fuckin walls. I'm going to have to glue 'em.

Apparently anyone on Steam (and maybe the consoles) that bought Metro Exodus back in the day gets a free copy of Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition. It's got super-duper-better ray tracing this time or something.

Did a bit of yard work today. Transplanted some stuff from the backyard to the front, planted a couple new plants in the backyard, built an 8 foot long garden box and transplanted the vegetables from the starter pots into it, removed weeds from the flower beds, laid down fresh mulch over the dull old stuff, spread grass seed on the bare/thinning areas of the lawn, mowed, and trimmed.

That was 13 sacks of mulch, 4 sacks of potting soil, a bunch of wood, half a sack of grass seed, and 6 holes dug. Julie and I worked together to get it all done, of course, but it still took us a good 5 hours.

After that I grilled up some dinner: steak, hot dogs, zucchini, and corn, plus fried potatoes. Julie made the salad and put her feet up, but that was kind of the goal. Kids were riding their bikes as the sun went down, and I just finished putting out the fire we had going in the fire bowl.

I fully anticipate feeling every last sack of mulch and dirt tomorrow even though I pre-gamed with a couple Aleve. That said, I still have to finish off the acoustic tile in the office. Apparently that foam tape wasn’t strong enough so I got some Loc Tite construction adhesive and have been using that. Good fucking luck falling off now you insolent tiles of foam.

I took my son's laptop from him as punishment for poor behavior 84 days ago. How do I know this exact number? Simple: when I opened it up to make sure it was up-to-date in order to give it back to him today, it turns out Windows had been suspended for 84 days while the laptop sat in my trunk Smile That means it missed the 20H2 and 21H1 updates, so I'm getting it up to speed now.

Microsoft has decided to prevent me from using a torrenting program, so now I guess I'll have to do that sort of thing on my phone.

Still on Wi-Fi of course, but annoying nonetheless.

Getting sick of applying gitlab-ce updates to my home source control VM so I added a quick & dirty Ansible playbook to update gitlab-ce every night at 11:30. That way I won't waste any goddamn time waiting for the gitlab-ce update when I'm updating the rest of the VMs, since it always takes a long time.

Transplanted my work PC from a Fractal Design Meshify C into a Thermaltake Core V1. Yes, I had a mini-ITX motherboard in a full ATX case, and it looked silly as hell. Now that I've done it, though, I wonder ...

See, this machine is similar to mine, in that it's an X570-based box running a Ryzen 9 3900X. The board has HDMI/DisplayPort out, as is the norm on AMD motherboards these days in order to support Ryzen APUs. The 3900X, however, is not an APU. How hard would it be for a motherboard manufacturer to implement a video capture card directly into the motherboard that only activates if you're not using an APU? That'd be sick as fuck.
