The Backlog: Sorce's Edition

#1
So, 2013 has finished and as such, I'm posting links to the games that I've "reviewed" or just had thoughts on instead of the ever-changing Backlog List. Since the thread itself is only 6 pages long, it's not exactly a long read, but if you just want a particular game, then go ahead and click.

Well, sort of. The first two pages are 'random' and were before I got some semblance of organization, so you'll have to poke around to find thoughts and/or comments on the following:
Alice: Madness Returns
Batman: Arkham City
Battlestations: Midway
Battlestations: Pacific
BioShock 2
Borderlands
Borderlands 2
DCU Online
Dead Space 2
DiRT2
Dragon Age: Origins
Duke Nukem Forever
F.3.A.R.
Flora's Fruit Farm
Hydrophobia: Prophecy
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two
Portal 2
Resident Evil 5
The Witcher

Anyway, here's after I actually started getting my stuff together to actually get rid of my backlog:
Alan Wake
Battlefield 1942
BioShock 2: Minerva's Den
BioShock Infinite
The Binding of Isaac
Black Mesa
Blur
Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box
Company of Heroes
Conflict: Denied Ops
Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Darksiders
Dead Space 3 (Part One)
Dead Space 3 (Part Two)
Deadlight
DotA2
Dragon Age II
Far Cry
Fireburst
Hitman: Blood Money
Home
Kane and Lynch: Dead Men
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Magicka
Mark of the Ninja
Mars: War Logs
Midnight Club II
Mini Ninjas
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode Three
Organ Trail
Pinball FX2
Plants vs. Zombies: GOTY Edition
Project: Snowblind
Red Faction: Armageddon
Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Rogue Trooper
Saints Row The Third
Sequence
ShellShock 2: Blood Trails
SpaceChem
Super Meat Boy
Tomb Raider (2013)
Tomb Raider: Underworld
Tropico Reloaded/Tropico 2: Pirates Cove
Tropico 3: Steam Special Edition/Absolute Power
Trine
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - GOTY Edition

And as always, if you want to know what I'm playing right this second, or how large the mountain actually is, head over to my Backloggery Page.

Well since you threw this oddball one in there might I suggest an addicting little game called 'Burger Shop 2'? My aunt asked me to 'aquire' it for her last night and before the night was over I was hooked on it myself.

In other news I'm going to be buying (Yes i do mean buy) Bejeweled 3. Smile

Flora's Fruit Farm was one of the games in the Eidos pack I bought last Christmas; I didn't actually go out and buy that one on my own.

While I have no screenshots, I have "finished" the Battlestation games. Air quotes because I've only played the two for about an hour before I determined that they were not for me. Third person mission-based (WWII) game where you're specific people, but more to the point, using bases, ships, and airplanes to run those missions. The controls were a little slow for me, and mostly just reinforced the fact that I'm more of an FPS guy.

I've got quite a large backlog as well. I finally got around to beating NFS: Most Wanted a couple weeks ago after a two year hiatus on that one, beat Dead Rising 2: Case 0 earlier this week and i'm working on finishing up Dirt 2 right now. Most of my 360 games i've started but haven't beaten so i'll be working on those after Dirt 2.

Still haven't sent my card in, but other than the boot issues and YT 1080p issues... it works fine. I've beaten FEAR2, and am closing in on the end of Mass Effect (thanks Steam Sale); basically I've just added more to the backlog. Oy.

It's not coming out until November, so there's still time.

I'm going back through ME for a second playthrough, since you can continue to level Shepard past the "old" 50 cap up to the new one of 60.

No I know that, but I bought ME 2. I also have a save game editor that can add ME 1 stuffs. I know not the same, but If I really wanted to know what effects it'll have, i could use it. Don't worry the game imo is well worth another play through. so after i play ME 1 I'll give ME 2 a shot with the save game import. and by then ME 3 will be out. :p

So I finished ME, and decided to do another run, because after you beat it, the level cap bumps up to 60 (from 50) and you can re-play the game with your preserved stats. Right now I'm close to endgame, and I'm right at level 59. This normally wouldn't be a problem, except level 60 requires 200,000xp to get. At this point, I've done virtually all the sidequests too (aside from a couple pokemon ones).

So, when I was engaged in one of the final battles in Resident Evil 5, I noticed something: Wesker's gun has the S.T.A.R.S. logo on it. Neat little easter egg, I thought.

I beat the first of the two Penny Arcade games as well.

My save file got corrupt somehow, and I had about 25 events left, all of which were the all-star races. Slightly upset about that considering I want to beat the game before Dirt 3 comes out in May.

Added Borderlands and BioShock 2 to the list, though I'm hip-deep in my Renegade run through Mass Effect, so I don't know if I'll be getting into either of those any time soon.

Unrelatedly, Flora's Fruit Farm seems like it would be one of those Facebook flash games, since it's ridiculously simple, but entirely "addicting" and mostly about inventory management. Thankfully it's only installed on my laptop.

Wrapping up my Renegade-slash-Hardcore run on ME2, I'm on the last mission (no spoilers!) so hopefully I'll be done by the end of the day. Can't confirm that, because the Hardcore difficulty is a PITA; they basically just slap an extra layer of shields/armor/biotics on everything and call it a day.

Running Vanguard does not help, either. Vanguards are primarily your front line tanks (for an analogy.. kinda) who work best with stunning creatures and using a shotty. That extra shielding the enemies get kind of prevents the whole "knockback" thing though, so... yeah. Fun times.

LOL those cutesy little games can sometimes be addicting as hell. About 6 months ago I got into a game called 'Burger Shop 2' and it was loads of silly fun. Looked really stupid at first glance but the gameplay was manic and addictive, and the game itself had lots of touches of slapstick humor in it that made it a lot of fun.

I'm sure I could dig up a copy if you're interested. :-)

BioShock 2 is slow going, just because I've played the first one, and there doesn't seem to be much difference in the sequel. Other than the main character, I suppose.

The game also randomly locks up and crashes to the desktop, which is annoying because I can't predict it. So I'm abusing the hell out of the QuickSave feature just so I (hopefully) don't have far to go in case the game crashes while I'm playing.

Beat BioShock 2, and I gotta say, it's not bad. It lacked an end boss battle (though the first BioShock's end boss was a cake walk), and the story was fairly similar to it's predecessor.. but it was still enjoyable, and I liked the characters.

Screenshots over on my Steam account if anyone's interested. There's probably spoilers there though, if you're concerned about that sort of thing.

I'm kind of ambivalent about Borderlands. I'm still playing it, and will see it through to the end... but the story feels like it's an excuse to just grind your character up his/her levels. Of course now I'm around 4 levels higher than I "need" to be for the plot-missions as a result, which removes quite a bit of the difficulty in the game. I still need to be tactical (read: daze THEN flank to kill) at times, but no one's taking me out with an errant bullet.

Borderlands is definitely a game to play with friends, it's designed around that. The difficulty actually scales between having 1-4 players playing.

I'm still working Arkham Asylum. I haven't given myself much time for games the past couple weeks.

Well, Borderlands is no longer a walk in the park.

I purchased the GOTY version when it was on sale last, which meant I got the game AND all the DLC. I've started three out of the four stories, and the third one ("The Secret Armory of General Knoxx") actually scales in difficulty. Which means I'm kind of getting my ass kicked a lot. Virtually every weapon in my arsenal is getting used now, and I'm living and dying by my crit-hit rate.
